Mission

The Distributed Systems Laboratory (LaSiD) is a research laboratory within the Computer Science Department at Federal University of Bahia (UFBA). It involves faculty members of the Computer Science Department, research assistants, and research students (Ph.D, MSc. and BSc.). The mission of LaSiD is to develop methods, techniques and tools that help in the design of correct and dependable distributed systems, preparing the next-generation of researchers and developers in these areas by investigating challenging problems.

A bit of history


LaSiD was founded on May 9, 1995, in the Data Processing Center at Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), and followed previous efforts to establish computer science research programs at UFBA, such as the Informatics week of Federal University of Bahia (SEMINFO), held bi-annually since 1986 until 2000 and responsible for promoting the area of computer science in the context of UFBA, Bahia state and nearby region. From its foundation, LaSiD has been the main responsible for the creation of the graduate programs of the computer science department (distributed systems, computer science, and mechatronics) and also for the training of many researchers, some of them became faculty members of the Computer Science Department.
